Cheryl Ploegstra
Florida Watercolor Plein Air Artist: Grab all the beauty of the Forgotten Coast
Cheryl Ploegstra is watercolor artist, working primarily en Plein air. She re-started her painting in 2016, inspired by the Plein air painters of the Forgotten Coast en Plein Air festival. Cheryl started in oils, but moved to watercolors, which more closely fits her artistic style. "Love that flow!" Cheryl is inspired by the natural beauty of the Florida Gulf Coast--the water, the marshes, the forests, birds and animals.
Cheryl teaches watercolor and plein air classes at The Joe Center for the Arts and is honored to be a "Florida's Finest Ambassador" for the Forgotten Coast en Plein Air festival in March of 2024. (http://www.forgottencoastenpleinair.com).
Cheryl coordinates a weekly plein air painting group call Gulf Plein Air, choosing and publishing paint locations about 40 weeks out of the year. Anyone is welcome to join. She also was a board member and Event Coordinator for the Forgotten Coast en Plein Air festival for several years, and helped to start The Joe Center for the Arts community art center in Port St. Joe, Florida.
